HotRod is a nephew to Tonka, which makes him a 38% blood brother to Tonka's foals. Mainly used as a team roping horse until 2001, HotRod quickly found success as Johnny Weil's calf roping mount. They qualified for the United Rodeo Association finals in 2001 and followed that in 2002 with winning three saddles for year-end championship in the United Rodeo Association, Iowa Rodeo Association, and average title at the URA finals.
